How to Correctly Write Safety Labels?

1. Clearly Define Chemicals

Use the full Chinese and English names, ensuring consistency with the Safety Data Sheet (SDS).

Indicate the main ingredients and concentrations (for mixtures), and list the UN and CN numbers.

The name should be prominently displayed at the top of the label, with clear and legible font.

2. Choose the Correct Pictogram

Use a square icon with a red border, white background, and black symbols.

Match the hazard category according to the GB 30000 series standards, which have 9 categories (e.g., flame = flammable, skull = highly toxic).

Mutual Exclusivity Principle: If a skull is used, an exclamation mark should not be used again to indicate toxicity; if "corrosive" is used, an exclamation mark should not be added separately to indicate irritation.

3. Determine the Signal Word

Use "Danger" for high-risk categories (e.g., explosives, highly toxic substances).

Use "Warning" for medium- to low-risk categories (e.g., skin irritation, low acute toxicity).

When multiple hazards coexist, only the "Danger" hazard should be included; "Warning" should not appear simultaneously.

4. Prepare a Hazard Statement

Use fixed phrases (corresponding to H codes), such as "H314: Causes severe skin burns and eye damage."

Arrange all applicable hazards in the order of Physical Hazard → Health Hazard → Environmental Hazard.

Duplicate items can be omitted (e.g., H314 already covers H318).

5. Complete a Precautionary Statement

Divided into four categories:

Precautions: such as "Keep away from heat sources," "Wear protective gloves."

Incident Response: such as "Immediately remove clothing and rinse if skin contact occurs."

Safe Storage: such as "Store in a cool, well-ventilated place, away from oxidizers."

Disposal: such as "Incinerate as hazardous waste."

Content should be specific and actionable, avoiding vague descriptions.

6. Include Supplier Information and Emergency Contact Information

Include company name, address, and telephone number.

A 24-hour emergency contact number for chemical accidents within China must be provided (not a regular customer service hotline).

7. Add a reference prompt:

Clearly state: "Please refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS)."

Prompt users to obtain more detailed information on safe operating procedures and emergency response.
