How to Properly Affix Hazardous Chemical Labels?

I. Label Placement Standards
Different packaging types should adhere to the following fixed placement requirements to ensure information is easily visible:

Drum/Bottle Packaging: Labels should be affixed to the side of the container, avoiding the top or bottom to prevent obstruction or damage during tipping.

Box Packaging: Located in a prominent position on the end or side for quick identification during loading, unloading, and inspection.

Bag/Bundle Packaging: Labels should be placed in a prominent position on the front of the packaging and should not be covered by straps or other markings.

Combined Packaging (Multi-layered): Labels must be affixed to both the inner and outer packaging. If the outer packaging is transparent and the inner label is clearly visible, an outer label is not required.

Containers or Grouped Goods: Labels must be affixed to all four sides to ensure identification from any direction.

II. Labeling Technical Requirements

To ensure the effectiveness of the label throughout its entire lifecycle, the following conditions must be met:

Strength: The label should be firmly affixed, attached, or printed to ensure it does not fall off, break, or become blurred during transportation, handling, and storage. Waterproof and corrosion-resistant self-adhesive materials are recommended.

Visibility and Size Matching: The label must be clearly legible; fonts and pictographs must not be obscured.

Minimum label sizes for different packaging capacities:

≤0.1L: Simplified labels can be used; there is no mandatory lower size limit, but information must be complete and legible.

0.1L and ≤1L: ≥75mm × 100mm

1L and ≤10L: ≥100mm × 150mm

10L: ≥150mm × 200mm or larger

Printing Specifications:
The border should be a red diamond-shaped graphic + black symbol + white background. A black border should be added to the label edge, ≥1mm wide, with an outer margin of ≥3mm to enhance legibility.

Language Requirements: (Import and Export Scenarios)

Domestic Distribution: Primarily in Chinese
Exported Products: Must comply with destination regulations, such as Jordan requiring bilingual labels in Arabic and English; European and American markets typically require English or the local language.
III. Responsible Parties and Update Requirements

Manufacturing companies are responsible for affixing labels before shipment; those changing packaging must re-label.

When label information changes (e.g., new hazard discoveries, ingredient adjustments, regulatory updates), it should be updated within 5 years or immediately (whichever comes first).

Unauthorized label removal is prohibited: Original labels may only be removed after thorough hazard removal treatment.
